Church History
Buck Creek Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and began as a mission fellowship of Calvary Baptist Church, Greenfield. Indiana on January 2, 1983 in a Cumberland storefront adjacent to Highway 40.
Stan and Beth Jones, our first pastor and wife, had a vision of reaching the community of Cumberland for Christ. The church constituted as an independent church on February 10, 1985 as Cumberland Baptist Church and Incorporated as Buck Creek Baptist Church on October 17, 1986. The land at our current location was acquired in 1989 and a building was erected in 1997 with the help of Carpenters for Christ, who also donated the steeple.
Upon the untimely death of Stan and Beth in a tragic accident, Reverend Carl A. Riley was asked to come serve as interim pastor and accepted the call as pastor in 2003. Pastor Riley and his wife, Barbara faithfully served our congregation until medical conditions dictated Pastor Carl's retirement from the Pastorate on May 27th 2012. Rev. Robert Wyrick (Pastor Bob) was called as our Senior Pastor on December 16th, 2012. Pastor Bob retired from Pastoral Ministry on May 26, 2019. Randy Stone was called as Senior Pastor on May 26, 2019. Pastor Randy is assisted by Deacons Chuck Reiss and Perry Guthrie, Church Treasurer Dick Young, Pianist/Music Coordinator Vicki Stone.
This is a church where the Word of God is faithfully proclaimed and God's love demonstrated by extraordinary men and women of God.
Foundational Beliefs
Scripture: The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man without error.
God: There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe.
Man: Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race.
Salvation: Salvation involves the redemption of the whole person, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.
The Church: A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the two ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws; exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word; and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.
The Family: Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image.
